The Academy,
located in the former Glade Spring School, a c.1924 building with a c.1950 rear addition, is a private facility being developed to serve the region for weddings and receptions, reunions, private parties and meetings, a gallery space, a cafe and catering service.  It is surrounded by 2-1/2 acres of grounds and gardens.  The exterior and interior are undergoing renovations to remove past additions and to enhance the inherent elegance of original existing spaces.  The exterior of the original building was inspired by the architectural designs of Thomas Jefferson and this will guide the style of the restoration, renovation and decor.

The Academy  will include:

  • The first phase is the Academy Gallery.  It features handmade arts and crafts of the Appalachian and Southeast regions.
  • Next will be the Academy Cafe . It will be an intimate dining venue featuring a menu based in regional recipes and products and take-home dining selections.  Watch for an announcement on this Home Page.
  • The Academy Assembly Hall will be developed to serve groups up to two hundred with various catering options.  The Assembly Hall will also be suitable as a small scale performance venue.
